I love this post. :) This is my 3rd time reading it. I created a mastermind group for people who have submitted action-oriented bucket lists to Community Bucket List and I just posted a paragraph from here about creating a binder to keep track and journal our progress of our goals and choosing 3 to 5 things to work on each week.

I'm also creating an internship for my mom's site, the Love Warrior Community and I'm going through articles online that I'll want her to read. This will be one of them. :)

I see a couple of things here that really reminded me of what it was like starting my own company (mostly as a result of a lot of lessons learned.) First, was having the focus. I did try a number of things, and went a number of directions. The success followed when I focused in on what I knew best and either outsourced or waited til the right person came along for the rest. Second, was forming the a support group. Having those people there may sound cheesy, but without a doubt they are what kept me going in the bad times. Many of them I am still close friends with and we still bounce ideas off of each other. They do have to be of like mind. If one is not on the same page, it can really bring down the group. I think I am rambling at this point, so will stop. Great post!

"Hey Mum, there's this cool guy with a cool article on Mastermind"...Well, OK, I'm revealing my age. But I do agree that this is a great article.

The peer group coming to gether for a singular purpose is very powerful, very effective in sorting out problems. In fact I use the Mastermind group mainly to sort out problems to create a forward looking and actional step in whatever the purpose of the group topic may be.

Great blog.

Good word. I suppose if you are interested on something and keep talking to people, eventually you will find people who are similarly interested.

Thanks for the advice man!

Well I would ask people in Colombia, but I know there are a lot of expats living there. I'd say in my experience, I did more networking with like-minded folks, cool entrepreneurial types, and folks in all kinds of careers and lifestyles that I wouldn't have had access to back home in my social circles. Living in an international city gives you more access—and believe it or not they network overseas too!

My friends and I have used things like Twitter, Couchsurfing, and A Small World to meet many key people on our travels, and my guess would be that there will be plenty of opportunity and contacts wherever you want to go as well.

As for people back home, yes you can always maintain a discussion through email, Skype conference calls, or set up your own forum for your mastermind group for example.

Hey Coby-

How do you deal with a situation in which you may become "location independent" or be able to live anywhere but your strong group of peers, i.e., the people who will help you achieve your goals, are not in the places where you will live? ...I know we have online conference calls & Skype to keep in touch, but isn't there an inherent tension between traveling the world and keeping up a mastermind group?

I am wondering because this is sort of where I find myself... My business side says, "Stay here in the States where you have entrepreneurial and business connections", but my exotic side says, "Just go to Colombia and figure it out later."

Cody,
Great words! I am actually in the process of going through the Four Hour Work Week steps of setting up a business. Today though I hit a wall and realized for the first time that it was going to be much, much, harder than I thought. I have a problem with keeping up my motivation. Posts like this help!
Thanks,
Chad
