People go look at your local and state governments Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports. My city, San Diego, whom always states HOW BROKE it is, has a Net worth of 428 BILLION dollars and yet wants to raise our taxes to generate more revenue. What in the heck is going on here.

Great post!! But what can we the people do? Shouting out a window wont do a thing. Short of a new revolution in this country to clean out the fat cat congress member's (that just gave itself a raise). And getting rid of the lobbyist that line the pockets of Politicians. I see no end to the same old same in Washington.

There's a great community there discussing politics and culture. As the election winds down, they're starting to talk about what next steps need to be taken in society.

There was apparently big news today of a plot by two dumb young neo-Nazis to massacre as many as 88 African-Americans and target Barack Obama in an assassination attempt.

From the Associated Press:
"The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, 'shooting at him from the windows,' the court documents show."

Thankfully, the Secret Service and Federal authorities stepped in before the plan was put into action, but this is the kind of ass-backwards close-mindedness I'm talking about. I know that the McCain-Palin campaign is not directly to blame, but the fact that campaign supporters are making some of these threats and insults at the McCain-Palin rallies without being challenged, and the fact that senior party members are accusing Obama of having terrorist ties, incites a climate of fear, hatred, and violence. That's not the America I want to be a part of.

My grandfather pointed out that I have a lack of a conclusion. In response I wrote that he's right about the absence of a conclusion: I don't know what the solutions are to our nation's problems; all that I and many people that I speak to feel is the frustration that we are not getting closer to solutions with the current administration and even with the way we do politics right now, so more than anything I just hope to provoke conversation and encourage people to make up their own minds/draw their own conclusions.

At the very least, this is getting people to talk. There is some great conversation going on over on Digg and StumbleUpon, and Jun Loayza and others have graciously promoted my article! Thank you guys for all of your support and for starting such great talking points. Please, even if you disagree with me, keep it coming.

Robb, thank you so much for taking the time to make your thoughtful comment, really man! I am in almost complete agreement with you in that I am tired of seeing the Dems and Republicans dominate the national state and block innovative ideas from the 3rd-party viewpoint. (I was also rooting for Ron Paul.)

My number one political agenda is freedom and equality—two things that are one in the same really—and I am disappointed to watch certain groups wanting to take away rights from others or make decisions solely because they are the "loyal" party position to take, even when those decisions will put many people in peril. I respect everyone's right to their own opinions, but at the same time I am extremely passionate about ensuring that our government protects that right for everyone, which is why I was also incredibly upset when Obama voted for the FISA bill which excused the Administration & telecoms for committing unconstitutional violations of American citizens' privacy.

This election could be a close one though, so don't sit it out. Even if you use your vote to help make clear that there is a significant population who want an alternative choice, this election needs you! In all honesty, I am embarrassed to admit this, but I still might vote for Dr. Paul on principle, but I also fear how close it might be between the two major candidates and I just don't know if I want to be part of McCain's America.

Amen, Cody.

However, I honestly don't care who gets elected. That's not my concern. It's fair to say that it's going to be either Barack Obama, or John McCain, but with McCain shooting himself in the foot, it seems to be leaning heavily toward Obama.

To me, they're both opposite sides of the same coin. I think that in a historical sense, the wrong person will win. A big word in this election is "Change". People are eagerly searching for this "Change". There are a lot of very passionate people who believe Barack Obama can bring the change that we so desire. I disagree. I think ultimately, he will bring us more of the same. After all, nothing will have changed. It's still going to be red vs blue, bickering back and forth about who said what about whom and what issues, that we will still continue to ignore what is really important:

Freedom.

I just hope that the same energy and passion continues after the election, when people will finally realize that we have to hold the government accountable for what it does. I'm not about this bailout. I'm not about this war. Hell, I'm not about the economy. I'm about freedom. If I'm free, nothing else matters. I'm still unsure who I'm going to vote for, whether I go for the lesser of two evils and vote for Barack Obama, or whether I write in Ron Paul, who really has his head in the right place.

I hope this election goes down in the history books. I hope it's the election where people finally realize that we can't depend on an elected official to make things right for us. We are The People. In this country, The People has the power. The People is above any elected office, monument, symbol or dollar printed in the land. That is who our vote is serving, and that's why we have to come together to be the change we wish to see in this country.

United we stand, Divided we fall.

Wow Cody, great post. I have been keeping up with politics and I feel you took to the words right out of my mouth and added some excellent and convincing points.

To be honest, I didn't quite understand the full extent of the implications of the bailout. What can we honestly do about this?

I went ahead and Dugg the post (I Dugg it with my FD account which I will friend you with later). I will also link this post to my blog with some of my thoughts so that my readers can read it too. What else can we do about this? If we get the word out to enough people, how much can we really change government?

I'm all for taking action and believe that our generation truly has the power to do great things if we work together. To CHANGE my friend

Thanks for the link love and taking the time to write this post. I know link heavy posts take forever, so they're definitely a labor of passion.

I watch Network for the first time over the weekend and was equally suprised at its continued relevance today. It's sad to think so little has changed. . . news anchors today spin even more bullsh*t today than in the 70s. Who knew that was possible?
