If you’re one of the many people that has asked me about my custom design here at Thrilling Heroics (or secretly drools over it), then you’ll be happy to hear I’m releasing it today as a free WordPress theme!
Releasing a free WP template is something I’ve been talking about for six months, and I’m excited to finally set my Thrilling Heroics design loose as a free, open-source theme to help you build your own awesome blog! This is my personal SEO- and social media-optimized design (that I used to use right here on ThrillingHeroics.com) which I’ve experimented with, tweaked, and perfected for a year and a half!
You can also see custom installations I’ve built at Business Backpacker and In Search of Sanuk. And of course, check out the live demo site here.
I’m proud to make this available publicly as free software licensed under the GNU GPL 3.0 license. That means you’re free to use it anyway you like for your commercial or personal blog, modify, alter, improve upon and share.
Just Give It To Me Already!

ThrillingTheme is largely based on FreshNews 1.0 from WooThemes and WP Framework, to which I added my own design elements, incorporated support for several prominent plugins, and added tremendous amounts of custom code to help you customize your blog and easily integrate it with your social media presence. I spoke to Adii from WooThemes yesterday to get his blessing (I have built designs on top of their awesome premium themes for many of my sites and highly recommend the whole WooThemes portfolio), and I owe thanks to Magnus Jepson, Jai Nischal Verma, and Vladimir Prevolac for a lot of design and code inspiration.
Fully-Customizable
The powerful admin options page allows you to make changes without editing code: you can upload your own custom logo image; automatically resize, crop & frame your own photo snapshot in the header, use mine, or leave it blank; change color schemes; easily integrate your Twitter, Flickr & Facebook profiles; add your Google Analytics tracking code, and manage your ad slots. Everything is plug-and-play!
Social Media Integration
I know how valuable a fully-integrated web presence can be when you’re building your personal brand and connecting with new people online. ThrillingTheme makes it easy to integrate your latest Twitter updates, recent Flickr photos, and even insert a link to your Facebook group or fan page with beautiful, pre-designed widgets.
Increasing Your Readership
I’ve also optimized ThrillingTheme (painstakingly over 3 years of experimentation) to keep visitors on your website longer and increase your subscribers. You’ll notice an attractive RSS & email subscription box in the sidebar, and a tabbed content box (set your own featured category, automatic popular posts, recent comments & tags). Single post pages are specially-designed to encourage visitors to share on social bookmarking sites with quick submission buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon & more, and I’ve built in support for the WordPress Related Posts plugin to encourage readers to dig deeper into your site.
Other theme features:
- 4 Color Schemes – Shades of Grey, Thrilling Orange, Black & White, Icy Blue
- Search Engine Optimized
- Auto-sized featured images & thumbnails
- Integration with FeedBurner email subscriptions
- 125×125 and 300×250 ad management
- Blog category dropdowns
- 3 widget-ready sidebar areas
- Built-in support for WordPress Related Posts
- WP 2.7+ nested comments support (new in ver 1.1)
- Gravatar support in comments
- Compressed CSS & minified JavaScript for faster load time
- Cross-browser compatible with all major browsers
- Tested with WordPress 2.5 and up
- Custom page templates for archives, sitemap & photo galleries
- Easy customization with the integrated theme options page
- Totally FREE for commercial & individual use

1. Please make sure to download the MOST RECENT version above.
2. Read through the “Help & Support” section on the theme page here: http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
3. If that doesn’t answer your questions, read through the comments here to see if your problem has been solved before posting a new one (most of them have).
Sorry, but other than theme bugs, I don’t have time to answer people’s individual wants & customization requests here.
hi,
just started with my website on yahoo, using your theme right now.
the theme was working fine on localhost, but on the remote server when I post an article, the home page doesnt load properly, except the header nothing gets. Only the last post title, thats what one can see. Except this all pages are working fine.
i am using wp 2.9.2, please help.
Hi! I’ve just installed your theme and I love it!
But I’ve found a bug.
When I tried to make a search from the 404.php search-form, there’s an error saying:
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in …/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/index.php on line 1″
I’m sure it’s just a small code-problem I can fix myself, but I tought you wanted to be notified.
Nice theme, but I ‘ve got problems – top photo doesn’t show, twitter posts don’t show, featured images don’t show, thumbnails don’t show?!
Pretty frustrating – just have to delete it and find another theme. All day trying to fix this. Just had enough.
For some reason half of the theme options no longer are displayed when accessed and I am therefore unable to save any changes…nightmare!
Any idea how to fix this?
thanks
DG
Hey Cody,
Very cool! I’m considering an adding a cooking/food/wine blog and I really like all of your built ins. So handy to have it all set and ready.
Thanks for sharing this.
Take Care,
Jill
Hey Cody!
I’ve been waiting for this and I’m excited to be using it for Drop Of Change.
Excellent theme with great options.
I am really excited trying to download your theme. Just to make sure, do I need to have a blog at wordpress.org right? What host do u recommend? Bluehost or dreamhost? Thanks for you help
Thanks for the theme, It is an awesome opportunity, I am really excited about this.
Gracias Ciaoo
Cody you sexy beast.
I am going to steal your site, my life long dream has come true, now to mess with the code so much that nothing works anymore and I have to come crying back to you to fix it.
Btw, I realise that I will probably be abused at the pub for this.
Just like you, Cody, to selflessly give more and more to the blogging community!
This is going to help a whole lot of people, methinks, and I can’t wait to check out your ebook!
Hey Cody,
Thanks for sharing! Only trouble I’m having is trying to get category links on the header, below the main text. For instance, where you have the “Why listen to me?” link.
Am I total newbie, or where can I change those?
Thanks
Cody, thanks for pimping my podcast! This is truly a world-class wordpress theme.
Hey Cody,
Thanks for the tremendous work. Really love the design!
Made my life a whole lot easier. Nobody can complain anymore that there isn’t a great, free theme available. You provided the tools for me, and some others
, now it is up to me/us to produce great content and to give back.
Keep up the good work!
Hey Cody!
Great step forward man!
I hope many people will use your theme and give you links back to your site.
It really is a sexy theme, a job very well done man!
Cheers
IMPORTANT UPDATE
If you have already uploaded ThrillingTheme on your server and are having trouble with FeedBurner email subscriptions, I’ve released a 1.0.1 fix (thanks to Carl Nelson’s tip). I guess Google has updated the way they handle email subscriptions since they acquired FeedBurner.
You can either re-download the updated 1.0.1 theme above and overwrite the folder on your server, or download this file http://www.thrillingheroics.com/download/feedburnerfix and just drop header.php, functions.php & sidebar.php in your /ThrillingTheme/ directory (click yes, overwrite files).
This should make your FeedBurner email subscriptions work. If you want to activate email subbies, then paste your FeedBurner URI into the right box on your theme settings page. If you leave it blank the email form won’t appear in your sidebar.
For example, my FeedBurner RSS URL is: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/ThrillingHeroics
My FeedBurner URI for email subscriptions is just: ThrillingHeroics
@Louis: Yes you’ll need your own self-hosted WordPress.org software to use this theme. If you need to set up a new site, I totally recommend BlueHost for their low price and spectacular support.
@Jonny: Hah, thanks buddy! Web design services can always be paid for in cash OR in pints. BTW, your own new site design is looking great!
@Caleb & Important Message for All: No category links will appear in your header navigation until you’ve added categories and used them on at least one blog post. So, in other words, if all your blog posts are Uncategorized, the header won’t show any category links yet. Alternately, you can edit header.php with a text editor and hard code your own specific links like I have here on ThrillingHeroics.com
Hi Cody,
With regards to having no category links (your message 29.10.09) I have just removed categories to make it simpler on the header bar… is there any way to just have a blank bar …mine currently says “no categories”.
Cheers
Jen
Thanks for responding to my question, and for your advice about the host.
Gracias, Ciaoo
This is ridiculously cool, Cody. What an altruistic move!
Hi Cody,
Many thanks for the free theme, it’s great! I’m currently rebuilding one of my sites around it and am very impressed with its flexibility.
One question: how do I go about getting different images above the title of each individual blog post (i.e. on the demo version how did you get the picture of the girl and the bike, the sunset, the boy and the dog, etc. above the title of each post)?
I think a lot of people like this visual aspect of your site, but it’s not entirely clear how to go about doing it – maybe there’s a plugin involved?
Thanks again for all your work on this,
Thom
Make sure you check out the static page with all the details & instructions here: http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
Look for the big subtitle “Add Featured Photos to your Blog Posts” for more, but by default there is a new module added to your New Post panel called “Featured Image URL”, so just upload any photo to your Media Library, copy the Image URL and close the box (no need to hit “insert in post”) and paste the URL in that box. Thrilling theme does the rest—automatically resizing and cropping your featured images to the preformatted size!
Thanks guys!
Great work Cody! For help on social media promotion, I’d be really interested in what works best for you and others – would love to see some case studies, do’s and don’ts
You may already have that lined up, that’s how I learn best – by seeing what other people have done, and taking lessons from their actions =)
Gorgeous work, Cody… I’ve got a little project this theme would be perfect for, downloading now! Thanks much to Sid Savara for tweeting about this, feeding my WP theme addiction.
Thanx for giving away your blog design. I admire it and will have to use it on one of my own blogs.
Wow I love it – that is an awesome design. Thanks so much!
Way to go, I’ve always liked your theme. It’s great of you to be giving it away so generously!
For your ebook, I’m thinking case studies and a look “under the hood” of certain ideas or techniques would be great for people.
Thank you so much Cody! This came at a perfect time.. I was feeling like I was ready to redesign our travel blog and I was feeling stir crazy this week being ‘stuck’ while our tow vehicle is in the shop.
So, I put my stir crazy energy to use and implemented your theme on our site the other evening. I’m absolutely loving it, and we’re getting great feedback. Thank you so much for all you offer to your community.. you totally rock!
– Cherie
Wow, great work! That’s for such an awesome, and free, WordPress theme!
I ran into a problem with the Twitter status functionality: My server has disabled PHP URL file access (which prevents both allow_url_fopen & file_get_contents from using a URL), so the Twitter widget was just showing this:
—————————————————-
Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/username/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1.0.1/sidebar.php on line 109
Warning: file_get_contents(http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=from:username&rpp=3) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /home/username/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1.0.1/sidebar.php on line 114
—————————————————-
Most PHP installations are configured with cURL enabled, so I rewrote the Twitter section of sidebar.php to use cURL instead. Here are the steps I followed to fix this:

Hey Cody, thanks so much for this theme! Just what I needed. I’m working on translating it to portuguese (Brazil) right now.
Hi Cody, just thought I’d highlight a few more issues that I’ve run up against so far:
1. I can’t find a way to change the regular link color. If you visit http://www.thegoodwall.com, a site I’m launching right now, you’ll see that I’ve managed to get the header navbar links to be the same color as the blog title, which is what I want, but can’t change the hover color on the lower navbar or post titles to match the red seen in the header, nor can I can change the color of a normal link. It might just be me being a *complete* moron, but I’ve had no luck in the .css files…
2. How does one go about setting up the Archives? Is it simply a case of creating a page titled ‘Archives’, because I’ve had no luck with that so far…
3. As selecting a category for a post causes it to come up in the lower navbar beneath the header, how does this affect categorisation elsewhere? You have a number of categories for your posts (Jedi Mind Tricks, Trip Reports, etc.) that don’t appear in the lower navbar – how did you go about this?
Again, apologies if I’m being a dumbass on this stuff! Still loving the theme and really impressed with your work on it.
Thanks,
Thom
I don’t see anything on the ‘Thrilling Theme Options” where I can configure the ‘
thrill_video_category‘ and the ‘thrill_asides_category‘. The reason I’m trying to configure them is because the following line in archives.php doesn’t work properly:<?php if ( is_category($vidcat) ) { the_content(); } else { echo strip_tags(get_the_excerpt(), ''); } ?>For some reason, when browsing the posts by category, it thinks EVERY page is the
$vidcatcategory, so it displays the full posts (the_content()) instead of the excerpts (the_excerpt()).Any pointers on that would be greatly appreciated.

Excellent work my friend, i will use this theme for sure, i will also leave a link back to your site in an article to help spread the word about this great free theme.
Excellent theme! has everything that I wanted in a wordpress theme. I use Thesis currently and am tempted to switch over!
lovely theme.
thx for sharing it free.
Awesome theme mate! Keep up the good work.
I’ve listed your theme on http://www.cmstheme.net/themes/wordpress/438/thrillingtheme
Hi! First of all thank you for this incredible theme!
I’ve downloaded the theme but I’m still having problems with the thumbnails that don’t work on my blog. Why? I’m following the easy instructions that you wrote on your post..
thank you again
Wow! Looks great! Thank you for giving this away for free!
Hi COdy
you made nice theme well i have problem with the header in small screen top black bar is broken i am posting the screen shot
look at top right corner in the screen shot

Something others might run into with the per post image generation and the polaroid pic at the top is that PHP_GD needs to be installed, good directions for that here:
http://www.hui-wang.info/2009/07/gd-library-error-imagecreatetruecolor-does-not-exist/
Also, big thanks for this theme, it looks great and I’ve gotten really good feedback about the use of it at http://www.killthecable.com
Thanks,
Mike
Hi and thank you for sharing the theme.
In our web we’ve been using thumbnail’ themes for a while, so we have a custom field (named “articleimg”) dedicated for the images.
Untill now, when we changed a theme we just edited the new theme’s custom field’s name into the previous one. But this theme has its own thumbnail generator, separated from the normal custom fields.
What should we edit to use a “normal” custom field, yet it still resized new uploaded images? Is it possible anyway? We have about 500 posts with their thumbnails and now it’s quiet a job to add them, but if it’s mandatory we will
Thank you,
Pol
@Pol:
If you already have an existing custom field for featured images on your blog, you can change ThrillingTheme to use your existing custom key:
Open:
archive.php
author.php
page.php
imagegallery.php
index.php
single.php
tag.php
Do a search for:
get_post_meta($post->ID,'image'And replace with:
get_post_meta($post->ID,'yourcustomfieldname'Same for:
get_post_meta($post->ID, "image"get_post_meta($post->ID, "yourcustomfieldname"If you want the custom Featured Image URL panel on your “Add New Post” pages to work properly, you’ll also need to open:
ThrillingTheme/functions/custom.php
Search for:
"name" => "image",And replace with:
"name" => "yourcustomfieldname",Hi,
I have problem with the images in the homepage.I did exactly the same as you said but still no images above the post titles.
I just changed the theme.Everything is fine but when i try to edit a published post by entering the url of the image which is in the media library i cannot see any image.I just see the image link.
Please help..
Is there an easy way to change the order of the sidebar so that the text widget or the ad widget in the sidebar are placed at the top?
I think the point on the thumbnails is that it doesn’t read PNG files.
Yeah, I’ve been experiencing some difficulty with images not showing up above the post titles. I followed directions pretty closely, and even got the gd extension installed and activated in PHP, but still not showing. I’ll continue to tinker, and see what happens. If I figure it out, I will share results here, but if anyone has any tips, please feel free!
GREAT Theme Cody!
Hi,
I’m looking for how to restrict the imagegallery.php to only one category.
As release, the template displays all the image published, but i would like to display only the picture in the category “photo” i’ve created.
Can anyone help, please ?
here is the code of the template imagegalery :
ID,’image’, true) ) { ?>
<a title="Click here to read the story" href="”><img alt="” src=”/thumb.php?src=ID, “image”, $single = true); ?>&h=180&w=255&zc=1&q=95″ style=”margin:5px;”/>
oops sorry the code didn’t display correctly :/
@Ken: You should be able to limit the Image Gallery page to only specific categories by opening imagegallery.php and modifying the query_posts call.
Search for:
< ?php query_posts('showposts=16'); ?>And replace with something like:
< ?php query_posts('cat=17&showposts=16'); ?>More about the query_posts template tag here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/query_posts
Hi pal.
I love the theme any way. But I have minor problem with twitter status update. It didn’t show the status just blank. I had figured it out but still can’t fix it. Hope you can show me the solution. Thanks
Two problems I’m having:
- my photo does not show up on the top header inside the “polaroid” box
- my Twitter photo is not showing up even though I inserted the link to my Twitter profile photo
Please help. I think this is such a beautiful and versatile theme.
Esme
Another question: on this site it says the theme version is 1.0.4 but when I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it, the theme version is 1.0.3. Where is the latest version of this theme?
Same issues as above
- my photo does not show up on the top header inside the “polaroid” box
- my featured photo does not show up above the post
Amazing template though. I would like to contact you about a small tweak for hire Cody
1. Awesome
2. Like the others, nothing is showing up in the Polaroid box at the top.
Hey Cody!
So I’m taking Jonathan’s Unschool course and he speaks very highly of you, so I decided to check out your site and low and behold, you release your theme for free! Bam! What a serendipitous thing to come upon
Thanks for this and I’ll be searching through your archives to mine out whatever knowledge you have and you have a new reader in me!
Jessi
Would anyone care to elaborate a little more on the picture problem? I’d be deeply indebted.
I followed the link above for the gd library error but the site made absolutely no sense to me. I’m on a mac if that makes a difference as well.
about the twitter status, check if your name has uppercases.
@Ken I have checked and double checked my twitter username. Nothing is wrong but it still didn’t show up the status.
The sidebar is a little screwed up, the featured, popular, etc. tabs aren’t working right. Everything is showing up underneath it all at once if that makes sense. Not a big deal, just thought you should know. Great design!!
I know there is no free support, but every seems to be having image issues on the header and front page, I wish these would be addressed!
Hey friend,
I have no problem to put featured image or polaroid image. It just look awesome in my blog. Your image may not show up because it might too big in size. Try to change the image size and upload it again to your media library. For featured image, sometimes you need to delete the image and upload it again then only it can really work. Hope this help you guys.
The image I uploaded is 20kb. That seems to be a small size.
I made my image smaller, 12kb, still does not work. The Twitter image is not showing up either even though I put the link to my Twitter image file. Any ideas how to get these images to work? I feel as if I’m doing something wrong but I’m just following the theme author’s instructions.
@Esme Vos try use different format pic like png or jpg format. For the twitter image go to your twitter profile right click on your image and choose properties then copy link image.
I look your twitter widget it works. Maybe you can help me to fix mine
Fazreen,
The Twitter photo now works. Thanks for the tip. The top header photo still does not work. As for Twitter, I don’t know what to say. My Twitter username is esmevos that this is what I entered into the box. Just enter the username, nothing else, no http, not twitter.com.
@Esme Vos I did like you said. My twitter username is eenrockstar. I have searched around about the problem. It may caused by several reasons like twitter changing the process, API or delay updating.
Guys, sorry for the slow update. I am working on yet another iteration to make some improvements based on the feedback and, well, I gotta keep dinner on the table, so thanks for your patience.
SNAPSHOT IMAGES & FEATURED IMAGES
The problem is most likely that you are using a format that the resizer doesn’t understand. For best results, use JPG only for the snapshot photo in the header and the featured images on each post. For the titlebar logo you obviously need a PNG with transparency if you want it to work correctly, but I would not recommend trying PNGs anywhere else as they seem to disagree with the auto-resizer script.
@Esme: The last iteration of this theme I simply mistakenly put it in a folder called 1.0.3. It IS the 1.0.4 theme if you check the style.css. Look for a new version soon if you guys are still having trouble with some of the formatting. Apologies.
@Robin: Sorry but I really have no way of know what the problem is exactly. Most likely there is something wrong with Javascript on your server settings, but I also notice that it looks like somebody altered the footer and that has thrown off the whole template structure.
Hey Cody,
Another suggestion:
In single.php, you shouldn’t add the “Related Articles” header because the plugin takes care of that (you end up with a double header when you set the title for Related Posts in the plugin).
Here’s the line that should be removed from single.php:
Related ArticlesThanks!
Ah, good eye Raam. Thanks for your suggestion, and others should keep this in mind, but the theme is designed so you can simply upload and activate the plugin without needing to configure anything. Cheers mate.
Cody – this theme is utterly lovely in looks. Thank you for sharing it.
I fully understand if you haven’t got time and resources available to provide support.
The suggested answer to the image problem above isn’t right though – it’s not simply a case that people are using wrong image types. There is something fundamentally wrong with image inserts on this theme. I can’t even get your default krabi jpg to show when I paste it in, and I’ve hardly begun using the theme.
I hope someone cracks it.
I am also having problems just getting the krabi image up.
Cody,
I also followed your instruction to check the box which tells WP to shorten the blog title. Still did not get my photo up in the header. Thanks for responding to my question. I know you’re really busy. I like your theme and will continue to use it.
Esme
Esme, Matt, John & others:
If you’re still problems with the featured images, header snapshot & auto image resizer in the theme, please try downloading the latest version, 1.0.6, from the page here: http://www.thrillingheroics.com/ThrillingTheme
Also be sure to use JPG-format images for best results (everywhere except the logo if you use one—there a PNG with transparency is best). And you might want to clear ALL the files from the ThrillingTheme/cache/ directory. Let me know if that helps fix your issues with images.
Cody
How about the twitter issue? It seems doesn’t work on my blog. It didn’t show the latest update.
If you experience trouble with the Twitter updates:
Version 1.0.3 included Raam Dev’s rewrite of the Twitter status call using cURL. If you still have trouble with Twitter updates, try reversing this fix found here: http://pastie.org/677368
Fazreen,
My advice to you is to try different Twitter plugins. You can find at the WordPress.org plugin page.
Esme
Hi Cody, Great theme! Love it. Thanks for your generosity. Is there any way to change what the preview of a post is? Or, how do I change where the “read this article” link is?
Cheers,
backpackingmatt
@Backpacker Matt:
The front page will display your “excerpts”, meaning, look for the Excerpt module on your “Write New Post” or “Edit Post” page. If you don’t write your own excerpts, it auto-pulls like the first 200 characters or something.
To change the continue reading links on the front page, you’ll need to open index.php and do a search for
< ?php the_title(); ? rel="nofollow">" href="< ?php the_permalink() ?>">Read this article…Leave the code but you can change the “read this article” message to anything you’d like.
@Cody thank you very much!
now when i put an image on the thrilling custom field, automatically a “articleimg” thumbnail custom field is created with the same thumbnail URL. So I have both and I just have to copy-paste once
Cody,
I downloaded the new theme and made sure that the photo I uploaded for the header is in JPEG format. However, I continue to have the same problem. To check, I substituted your Krabi photo. Still no image showing up inside the “polaroid” frame. Another thing: Only the first 7 categories (alphabetically) show up under the header – not the categories with the most posts. With the 1.0.3 theme, all categories showed up (which was not optimal either).
Esme
I don’t know if this will help folks with the image upload problem. I was experiencing these same issues, and noticed what Michael Buckbee said in an above comment(5 November 2009). He stated that the “PHP_GD needs to be installed, and provided this link for instructions:
http://www.hui-wang.info/2009/07/gd-library-error-imagecreatetruecolor-does-not-exist/
I went to website, but still ended up having to ask my techy brother for some help. He stated that I would have to first contact my Host in order to have them install the PHP_GD file, and THEN I was able to enable it(that link had the instructions).
So I contacted Hostgator(my host), and they installed it for me. I thought I was home free, but then it still wasn’t working. I told my host what was going on, and after talking to a second rep, they basically said..oh, we see what the problem is, we have to “whitewash” something..or do something “w/security settings” for your site…Once “that” was done, the header & snap shot pics worked..!
So, I hope that helped. :->
great theme!! Just one question.
How can i have my post display entirely on the main index page without having the reader having to click “read this article”?
I thought I made a comment on this, as I loved the theme this is based on from Woo themes, but I like this rendition of it better. I will try to say it again, that I really like this rendition of it. I am definitely going to be using it on one or several of my blogs I am bringing up soon. Really clean and nice with the utilities I need for my photoblogs.
Thanks for sharing this.
Darkman
@Vee: Open index.php, search for
the_excerpt(), replace withthe_content()@Darkman: Thanks so much for the compliments man!
Great great great theme!
How do you get the images at the top of the article to display on the main page and the article page though? Right now it only shows titles, no images above the title.
THanks!

@Veron Graham regarding image problems
Thanks for sharing this. I also contacted Hostgator and they resolved things. They said:
“There were two mod_sec rules blocking the thumb.php script. I have since whitelisted these and now images are being displayed.”
Hopefully this has fixed it for good
To update others on my post above re: header image.
Hostgator fixed the image problem with the whitelisting, but when I changed the image again I found it wouldn’t clear out of the cache and the old image remained.
I contacted them again and they said:
“It appears that the issue was caused by the thumb.php scripts cache. I’ve cleared the files from the cache/ directory and refreshed the page and now show the correct image displayed at the top of site. The cache directory that was cleared is located in wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1.0.3/ThrillingTheme1.0.3/cache/”
Regarding the Polaroid Photo:
For those of you that don’t really care how or why there is a polaroid problem….
You can FTP to your site, and pull out the snapshot-trans.png file (Mine is here: http://www.techforthemasses.net/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/ThrillingTheme/images/snapshot-trans.png)
Copy to desktop. Edit with Photoshop. Then basically copy whatever photo you want in there, save as png as the same name. Upload back into the orginal FTP directory. Done! Don’t forget to backup the original just in case.

I just realized that this theme isn’t doing nested comments? is there any way of implementing this without too much trouble? Oh and Your welcome about the theme, I really like it a lot.
Hi Cody
First up, thanks for the awesome theme, exactly what I’ve been looking for!
The only issue I can see is that it seems to bunch up the text at the start of my posts (example here –> http://adamgillie.com/2009/04/29/taking-the-plunge/).
Any thoughts on how to correct this?
Cheers
Adam
I was looking for a new design in the last days, and someone just came up with this link. One more on the road.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Marco, glad you enjoy the theme.
This looks awesome! Thanks a ton for keeping it free!
I look forward to using it when I shift to self-hosting soon!
This should must be indexed in Smashing Mag 100 themes list or whichever list soon!
Thanks again!
Will gladly and with gratitude use your 3 years of hard work.
How to disable thumbnails [the images] above every post on home page! I do not know that and it’s just showing a permalink. Thanks.
Please help me with the following queries; I have no money to donate and I do not know CSS!
I am testing this theme here http://78.137.163.70/~vikas-gupta.in/ and I want to use it permanently. Just few questions:
1. How to disable the thumbnail/image above every post; I want to make it like Esma’s blog. If you go to my temp blog url link you will find there is a permalink above the posts and it looks bad!
2. It is showing 7 categories in header bar by default. How to show more or less no. of categories (or choose which ones to show) there and why is the sub category not showing?!
3. How to add a box or some info just besides the related articles at the end of the post.
4. Your tags start just beside the bookmark and share button unlike ours which begin in a different line!!!
5. How to make these small case: “I’D LOVE TO HEAR YOURS!”
Thanks a ton.
And yes, how to enable nested comments; I have it enabled in WP dashboard but it does not show!

‘h’ is missing in the Thrilling theme promo message!!
Cody,
Thanks for the reply in the mail. I understand. I had read all comments here but was unable to troubleshoot. I guess I will end up learning some CSS now to customize this theme. Thanks again.
Beautiful theme Cody. Downloaded it and will be trying it on my personal blog.
Hello,
Congratulation for this great theme !
A question : what do I need to modify to have only a specific Flickr set instead of my whole Flickr account content ?
Thanks
Luc
Hello,
Another thing that would be great is including a drop down menu for the second menu (not the very top one)
I tried, but failed to use the WP Plugin from Pixel Point

For people having issues with the resizer that makes the post images on the main page:
Check the source of the page to see where the thumb.php script is thinking your image file is. Paste this into your browser. You may see an error message from the thumb.php file indicating that it cannot find the image at that location. This script uses the path to the file on the web server, not on your website. Because my WordPress installation is not in /var/www/ but in /usr/share/ it was not finding the image. I revised the thumb.php script variables and now it works fine.
Hello. I’m trying to set up Your template and translate it into Russian. I’ve come across two difficulties so far:
1) How do I make a video appear in categories and in the main page? Can I theoretically set up posts in a category without “featured image” but with a video code linking to youtube or vimeo?
2) There’s “feature image” field for a post and this pic is displayed when the post appears in categories in the main page. We also got it inside the post. Can I somehow put it away while viewing the post?
Thank You for Your attention.
Hey all, still loving the theme Cody – really happy with how it has gone so far. One question I do have is whether anyone has had problems with their gravatars showing. If you look in my comments section here:
http://bit.ly/74Zohy
then you’ll see what I mean – I don’t know whether the other commenters have gravatars set up, but I do for myself and it still won’t show. It shows up fine in the comments section on my dashboard, just not on the post itself.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help!
Can anyone plz plz help me with the following error that I’m getting on my homepage ????
Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /nfs/c04/h04/mnt/83889/domains/probloggerdiary.com/html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/functions.php on line 586
I liked this theme so very much but I’m unable to find the solution to the above error … would anyone plz help me ??
@Luc: Please try the latest version of Thrilling Theme, sorry something went wrong with the dropdowns in about version 1.6 and it’s fixed in the latest version.
@Guru: This is the comment you’re going to want to read back over again. Looks like you will need to change the file path in thumb.php.
Thanks to stryc9 for that!
Hey Cody I just installed this theme and shifted to self hosting. Thanks a lot. All my earlier problems have been solved. I guess Hostgator hosting also rocks! I have drop down in categories and all categories are showing in header etc. The categories other than those in the header bar have a visibility issue if you use the orange color scheme but I am not seeking any help now.
Thanks again. You are a nice guy! I have read many of your posts and found out that you care for the society. I will surely buy you a cup of coffee someday soon!
This may be a duplicate comment; you can delte the one.

Waiting for ur reply
Second post…
How do I make a video appear in categories and in the main page? Can I theoretically set up posts in a category without “featured image” but with a video code linking to youtube or vimeo?
Can someone here tell me how to show comments on pages. I had some 100 comments on my wordpress.com blog and I now shifted to self hosting. I added this in the page.php and it works for submitting new comments but the existing ones are not shown! I read somewhere that “The trick is to edit the Page template of whatever theme you are using and add the following snippet of code right below the existing post-div (ends with comment: )”
I checked a few sites using this theme. The text on the right of the Polaroid image in header does not show in Internet Explorer! Cody’s blog however has it visible in IE!
If someone knows the answer please reply here. Thanks.
Oh, I put a stat code in my footer, maybe that screwed something up. Also, the twitter information isn’t showing up in the sidebar.
How to : add a function ?
Hello,
The theme works like a charm, perfect, and is gorgeous.
This said I’d like to add some fucntions to the fucntions.php file, and I fail , the site throuws an error.
I tried to add the code at the end of the fucntions.php file : error
I tried to crate a new file placed in /fucntions/ with a call “require_once ($functions_path . ‘/myownfucntions.php’);” => error.
Any tip ?
Luc
Hey Cody,
I have decided to also use this theme, it looks awesome and really functional. a big thank you for the time you have taken to make this and share it.
the only problem I am having is the header image is not showing (nor your Krabi one)…I have read through all the comments and tried to do everything suggested:
* Contacted hostgator – they whitewashed files and sorted PHP GD library
* Cleared cache
* Reloaded your theme
I’m stumped, I would like to use a photo if possible, but just can’t seem to work it out (Hostgator are also also trying to help). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Jen,
I am with Hostgator and it was easily done for me with a chat.
We hit a mod_sec rule and the staff had whitelisted it (can’t tell you the technical things).
Hope this helps.
Hey Vikas
Thanks for your reply, but no joy. I’ve been chatting with Hostgator for about 3 hrs now, they have done all these things, but not working.
Ohkk Jen, sorry to hear that! HG support, I am sure, will find the solution sooner or later!
Thanks for your replies Vikas – fingers crossed!
Jen,
I am sure you will reach your dream!
All the best. Tweaking themes sometimes is so time taking. I learnt so much using the various WordPress themes!
lol!
You are right – It is a good learning curve!
Hi, Thanks for the fantastic Theme. I was so elated to find out it was for free. I am having on problem. On IE the upper right description is not showing up. On FF it shows up just fine. (the part that says “Cody McKibben is passionate… “)Any ideas?
Love the design, we are so going to steel this, thanks (SMILE).
Has anyone see this error in FireFox?

Once again this is very very cool.
The next time you update this template I would suggest letting your Flickr plugin to allow group ids. This way when other people that attend my events they can just add them to the group and they will be shared with the site.
Just my 2 cents, this is a great template and the price is great as well.
Thanks.

Tabbed sidebar problem
Hello, I suppressed one of the <4 items in the tabbed sidebar widget to kep only 3 of them (lkike on this site by the way)
Under Firefox and Safari every thing is fine, but under Google chrome the tabbed widget has a display problem (the non selected two items are displayed below the first instaed of been hidden) and this site doesn't have this problem.
have a look here : http://velofun.fr
Any tip ?
Luc
Please get the W3C validation in next release. Thanks.
In order to give you the ability to change the photo in the top navigation (shown as a background image with another PNG border hovering OVER it) it breaks W3C. In this humble developer’s opinion, W3C validation is meaningless as long as you have a cool-looking site that renders properly in all major browsers.
Agreed. ‘Nough said.
Agreed. ‘Nough said.
One question – would you consider adding functionality for featured images/image header to be supported from a remote hosting site such as Flickr? I don’t really want to use all my bandwidth and disk space on pictures.
Yay! I have managed to get my header pic on!
Wanted to let you all know how in case it helps anyone else.
I did all the thing mentioned here (contacted host…whitewashing, apache, clearing cache etc but they didn’t work). I realised the path on the snapshot photo section in wp-admin didn’t match my ftp (filezilla path) where I was uploading my picture from:
http://reachourdreams.com/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/ThrillingTheme/images/krabi.jpg is the correct one.
Originally it was:
http://reachourdreams.com/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/Thrilling Heroics/images/krabi.jpg
Hello all,
Has anyone figured out where to save the favicon.ico? Which folder is the header looking into? I have not figured this out yet, any help would be great.
Darrin
@Darrin
By default header.php proposes :
link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/favicon.ico”
So default place is website root, but you can modify header.php to fulfill your needs
Luc
awesome I did the first step and it worked just contact them and tell them what’s going on and 2 seconds later it works thanks guys for putting this info out
@Jen, sorry you had such trouble sorting out the problem with your images. Here’s some more detailed info for anyone still having problems with the thumbnail script:
If you are on HostGator
If you are on HostGator, all you have to do is contact them by going to: http://www.hostgator.com/
Click where it says: ‘Click here. Live Chat’ on the upper-right corner of the web-page and tell the followings:
add following rules [ 1234234,340151 ] to mod_security for http://www.yourwebsite.com
Please whitelist for the domain
That is all you have to do. Wait a couple of minutes and you’ll probably see the images on the front page of your web-site.
Cache Folder
One of the most common errors is that the cache/ folder does not have write permissions. If your error message is something along the lines of “Permission denied…” and you can see it referencing you /cache folder, then you probably have not set write permissions to it.
To do this, you will need to “CHMOD” the folder in your FTP client to 777 (or 755 or full write permissions). Check out this tutorial on how to do that. The folder you will need to change the permissions is “/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/cache”. This is the folder where the thumbnail generator stores cached images.
PHP GD Library
The thumb.php script uses PHP GD Library to resize the images, which is usually included with PHP and should be installed on your web host. Some small web hosts haven’t done this and you will then get a error like “GD Library Error: imagecreatetruecolor does not exist”. You should ask your web host to activate PHP GD or find a better hosting provider, since this should be included and is not a hassle to setup for them.
There are also some older versions of PHP that will give an error like “gd-png: fatal libpng error: zlib error”. This should also be fixed by your host by upgrading to a newer version. This usually only happens with PNG images, so you can try to upload your images in JPEG format instead.
I am also having trouble with photos appearing above posts. I called my host – GoDaddy and they said there was nothing they could do – that it was a wordpress issue. I cleared the cache and it didn’t help. I used firebug and changed it from this:
to this:
and it worked. So, is there any issue with thumb.php? Anyone have any ideas? Anyone have similar issues with GoDaddy as their host?
this:
img alt=”My Post” src=”http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/thumb.php?src=http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/photo.jpg&h=195&w=540&zc=1&q=95″/>
to this:
img alt=”My Post” src=”http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/photo.jpg”/>
Well the second example there will simply show your images without resizing them. What you’ve cut out is the resizer script itself.
Again, try using JPG images.
Hey Cody
No worries, I’ve learnt alot & I managed to get it sorted yesterday. I did all the things mentioned in the comments but the final tweak that got the photo appearing was realising that the filepath for the snapshot photo was not matching path on the ftp server:
http://reachourdreams.com/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/ThrillingTheme/images/krabi.jpg
the original one I was using had /thrilling heroics/ where the first ThrillingTheme is. As soon as I changed that, the picture appeared.
Thanks again Cody
Jen
Hello all, Happy News years.
I am working on a new site http://www.theccea.org and I have experiences a strange problem in the admin section of the site. When I click on a page to edit the text the page loads but the middle part of the screen is blank. The publish section is there and the attributes are there as well but nothing in the middle.
I have posted a screen shot so you can see what Im talking about.
http://s151099858.onlinehome.us/chitown/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/image001.png
Any suggestion on whats wrong or how to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Darrin
I found the issue; the plug in was causing the issue. The Plug in Contact Form 7 (http://contactform7.com/) is conflicting with this theme. Any ideas why? Any fixes? Or would you have a contact form plug in that you might suggest?
Darrin
@Daren Stern
I’m not sure of that, I use Contact Form 7 (v. 2.0.7) with the same theme (v.1.1) without any problem
Hope this helps
Luc
Thank you for the fast responce; its funny I have the same versions installed as well but then make the Contact Form 7 activate it then causes the the following problem in my admin section:
http://s151099858.onlinehome.us/chitown/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/image001.png
I have the following Plugins activate:
Akismet Version 2.2.7
All in One SEO Pack Version 1.6.10
flickrRSS Version 5.1
Google Calendar Widget Version 1.0
MailChimp Version 1.1.8
Redirection Version 2.1.24
What Would Seth Godin Do Version 1.7
WordPress Database Backup Version 2.2.2
WordPress Related Posts Version 1.1.1
WPtouch iPhone Theme Version 1.9.7.4
Not Activate
rpx Version 0.2.4
Contact Form 7 Version 2.0.7
Do you think there is a confict with between some of these? Any suggestions of where to hunt this down? SHould I contact the Contact Form 7 people?
Thanks.
Darrin

I use a lot of plug ins, my activated list is :
Advertising Manager Version 3.4.10
Akismet Version 2.2.7
All in One SEO Pack Version 1.6.10
Clean Archives Reloaded Version 3.1.10
Contact Form 7 Version 2.0.7

CycloPress Version 1.5.0
Easy Review Builder Version 0.1
FeedBurner FeedSmith Version 2.3.1
flickr-slideshow-wrapper Version 4.7.9
WP FollowMe Version 2.0.4
Google Analytics for WordPress Version 3.2.5
Google News XML Sitemap Version 1.0.2
rpx Version 0.2.4
Simple Tags Version 1.7b1
Sociable Version 3.5.2
Twitter Tools Version 2.0
Twitter Tools – Bit.ly URLs Version 2.0
Wordbooker Version 1.2
WordPress.com Stats Version 1.6
WordPress Beta Tester Version 0.81
WP Geo Version 3.1.2
WP SimpleMail Version 0.6.2
WP Super Cache Version 0.9.8
On the top of that i use some personnal functions added in the function.php file
The only solution (I know it’s a PITA) is :
1- to write (or screen shot) the settings of all plug ins
2- deactivate all plug ins
3- see if everything works (if it’s not the case there is a problem with your theme)
4- one by one activate the plug ins until the admin breaks
But before that, classical medecine applies, emply your cache so see if what you’re seeing is not a basic cache problem

Thank you for this theme! I am using it for my blog and I just love it!
I am using:
CommentLuv 2.7.64
Subscribe to Comments 2.1.2
Comment Reply Notification 1.3 (which is a great plugin similar to Subscribe to Comments, except it only notifies people when someone replies directly to their comment).
Anyway, in my comments form, StC appears above the “Submit” button, and CommLuv and CRN appear below the “Submit” button. Ideally, I’d like to put them all above, but as long as they end up on the same side (they appear on the same side in most other themes I’ve tried). If I understood what cue they were taking from the theme for where to display, I could probably figure out how to move them. Any suggestions on how to go about that?
Maybe someone in the community can point me in the right direction. Even helping me figure out where to go look it up would be an awesome help!
I’d like to know if there’s a way to change the ’2nd line’ of text to a different color? I’ve looked everyhwhere to see if I could located the line of code for it, but I can’t.
Thanks!
Found the error. I was not running on php5. I had to update my .htaccess file. Im up and running now.
i’m trying to figure out why the pics are double posting on the single post page? it’s showing the thumbnail & full pic..
Cody (or anyone who can help),
I love the theme… having one challenge… can’t get category archive to work properly. When I click on the link to view all posts in a category, it only shows one and only the title and little comments bubble… no other text and none of the other posts in that category. I have tried editing the archive.php file, but can’t seem to get it working. Can you help?
I need some help with a few tweaks, one of them being the Twitter feed (suggestions posted here didn’t completely work). I’m willing to pay someone for the consulting. Can anyone help?
This is a truly awesome theme. I have a question. The two sites that Cody points to as custom installations of this theme, Business Backpacker and In Search of Sanuk, both have graphic backgrounds behind the main content areas. I’ve looked through the theme’s files and the pages’ sources as interpreted by the browser but, being a newbie to css and javascript and all that, I can’t see an obvious way to add such a background image to my own site. Can someone tell me how to do this or point me to the appropriate resource? Thanks.
Thanks, Cody, for making such a great theme available.
@Matt – to create a custom background, Cody is referencing an additional stylesheet within the header.php file that links to background images. You can take a look at one of these stylesheets here – hope this helps!: http://www.businessbackpacker.com/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme/styles/12-grungerust.css
Yes, that helps a lot. Thanks!
Hey thanks for the great theme Cody. With some minor tweeking and a phone call to Hostgator, I was up and running in just a few hours. Keep up the good work.
I can’t seem to change any of the colors in the css stylesheet. I would like the links to be red instead of the blue. I have tried changing the colors in the code but nothing works. In other words, how can I change the color of the links?
Hi there,
I see there are already a few questions about the twitter integration. For me it only works in th einternet explorer not in Google Chrome or Firefox. I use the twitter for wordpress plugin now and it seems to be fixed. However the twitter updates are now displayed twice in IE and once in Chrome or Firefox.
What bit of code do I have to remove from the sidebar.php to display only the updates with the twitter for wordpress plugin?
Thank in advance!
Thank you so much for the theme.
Do you know how can i take out the thumbs from the index page, the pics above the post title?. i changed mi content to be displayed on the index and i don’t like the way it looks.
Thanks!!
Bug: Setting a static page as the home page makes the main nav hyperlinks a bit wacky. Eg on my blog page: http://www.firstbyte.co.nz/website-design-articles/ both that link AND the home page are highlighted. And when on the home page, the hyperlink for “home” does not indicate that I am indeed on the home page.
My host (hostgator) just went in and fixed the polaroid photo for me…She said:
I just had to whitelist some rules that were getting hit by our mod_security.
So, if you have issues, just ask your host to fix it.
Hello,
Thanks for this great job.
I have request : is it possible to have a detailed changelog because I have translate all this theme in french and don’t want to do it again… ?
Other question : How can I limit the number of posts on the home page ? It doesn’t works from WordPress admin page.
Thanks !
S.
Changelog is here: http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
@captainSeb
Don’t worry , I use it in French, very few to translate
just the usual stuff
Luc
Great theme love it! Added it to my WordPress blog
Thanks a lot…
First off, thanks to Cody for creating a really great, easily customizable theme. It’s been really fun to play around with, and each and every site I see that uses the theme is doing so in a really unique way. Now… on to my question that hopefully someone can help me out with!
For some reason, the “post box” in the sidebar refuses to show posts in the Featured category – but only on the homepage of the blog. On every other page of the blog, the Featured posts are listed without a problem. I’ve been banging my head against a wall trying to troubleshoot this issue, but alas no luck. Anyone have a quick fix for this?
I have a problem with the tabbed sidebard widget
Have a look here : velofun.fr
Out of the box, the widget has 4 tabs
I need only three so I deleted in sidebar.php the fourth.
With Firefox everything displays fine
But with Google Chrome and Apple Safari the tabs are not displayed.
I saw other sites with similar settings (one tab less) and without this problem.
Where did I fail?
Thanks in advance
Luc
Anyone having problems with this theme:
Sorry, but other than actual theme bugs, I don’t have time to answer people’s individual wants & customization requests here.
McLovin! Nice!
I recently changed my perma-link structure for my categories, from the default http://blog.com/category/categoryname to http://blog.com/categoryname
but right now i have 404 errors http://blog.com/categoryname/feed
with the previous structure it is an error http://blog.com/category/categoryname/feed
Anyone know how to resolve this issue. Running on WordPress 2.9.1, didnt work on the previous version too.
Plus the pagination doesnt work now in the categories. Goin to page 2 sends the page to 404 error page. Has anyone come across these issues?
Template is great, but Slimbox doesn’t work. When i change template Slimbox work, is there any way to fix this problem?
I love this theme, Cody – thanks so much for releasing it!!
I have a question. I would like to customize the background colors. I’ve looked at the code and can’t seem to find where this would be done. Does anyone know how to change the background colors to a custom color – or know where I could look to figure this out? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
@Heather: The main body background color is not set in the primary styles.css style sheet. It’s set in the style sheets in the styles folder. For example, the body background color for the icyblue style is set in icyblue.css.
Exactly what I needed – thank you!
Hi All! I have one last question. Where do you change the color of the black/dark gray background that is currently in the header? I’ve looked everywhere, and obviously I’m missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!!
The header background is actually a graphic named bgr.jpg . You’ll find it in the styles folders. To change those colors, then, you’ll need to open that graphic in a graphics editor and change the colors there.
Thank you, again!! It’s finally finished. I really appreciate your help!
Thank you mattt! I needed this too!
Hy and congratulations for this theme!
I have two questions:
Under the title of the post I don’t see the author and the date, how can I add?
Now is possibile to remove “Read this article” for each post?
Thanks!
where is the admin log in on this theme? how do I go from here to the back office?
You don’t need a link in the theme for that. From the home page of your blog, just add /wp-login.php to the end.
So http://mysuperawesomeblog.com becomes http://mysuperawesomeblog.com/wp-login.php
If you have your blog in a different directory, it should still work. I.e., http://mysuperawesomeblog.com/blog becomes http://mysuperawesomeblog.com/blog/wp-login.php
just started with my website on yahoo, using your theme right now.
the theme was working fine on localhost, but on the remote server when I post an article, the home page doesnt load properly, except the header nothing gets. Only the last post title, thats what one can see. Except this all pages are working fine.
i am using wp 2.9.2, please help.
Wow, this is great. i really appreciate everything, BUT no matter how many times I try …… every time I try to upload a HEADER IMAGE it is the wrong size and/or blurry. I guess I’ll have to go into to Photoshop and resize all mages to 540 X 195 before uploading them?
Also, uploading videos just is NOT happening to me. All I get is a hotlink to where the video is instead of it being embedded into the page.
My page hierarchies do NOT work at all. They are set up right, but one would never know when they visit the site since the only one who knows the pages are there is me.
Cody’s sit eis awesome. An idea how to change the COLOR of text?
Any idea how to add images to the SIDE of text the way he does?
Thanks!
Cardinal
Fantastic theme, Cody!
The only problem I’m having is that, for some reason, in the comments section below a post it doubles the actual word “comments.”
For example, here: http://powerspercussion.com/blog/but-youre-a-drummer
. . . it says “4 Comments Comments For This Post.”
And below that, in the trackbacks area, it says “4 Comments Trackbacks For This Post.”
Weird. Any ideas?
Thanks a ton-

Hello
I still have tab widget problem
The tabbed widgets works only with Firefox, not with chrome or Safari
I deleted one to get 3 instead of the default 4 and clearly I failed somewhere
(see http://velofun.fr)
Can anbody who solved the “3 tab situation” help me ?
Thanks
My humble request is to ask if anyone knows how to increase the amount of 300×250 boxes on the sidebar.. Is there way to make them go all the way down the page? In the dashboard there appears to only be 1 slot to add a 300×250 banner. Any ideas?
BTW: This theme kicks some serious tail!!!
Hello
I have a problem with “welcome message”. I think (but i’m not developer) my problem is about “stripslash”. When I use apostrophe (‘) it is appared automaticly a slash (/) ‘/.
Can you help me ?
(Sorry for my poor english)
This is a beautiful theme with so many useful functions! Thanks a lot for that! I have one -maybe stupid- question. I can’t access the theme options page, can’t find the link anywhere in the admin menu. Thanks for any hint!
Hello,
The title of my blog is stylished only on Google Chrome, but not on Internet Explorer… How can we make the name has the same nice effect on Internet Explorer too ?
Thanks.
Thanks for this fantastic free Theme Cody, nice work.
It’s works perfectly with, FF, Camino and Safari, but IE7+8 show the error-triangle when the page load a lot of my visitors tells me.
I find out the IE error comes from the “js/suckerfish.js” script included with the theme and try a lot workarounds for fix the error in the script, without success.
I fix the issue this way:
Copy this sfhover script:
<!–
sfHover = function() {
if (!document.getElementsByTagName) return false;
var sfEls = document.getElementById("nav").getElementsByTagName("li");
for (var i=0; i
and paste it into your “header.php” after the last </style and before the tag.
Comment out or delete this script-link ind the header.php:
Save your changes!
Thats it!
ATTENTION! DONT COPY FROM THIS ABOVE!!, forgot that the comments dosn’t show the hole thing, sorry ;-/
-madzzoni
READ THIS!
I upload a .txt file with the Fix IE7+8 script here:
http://www.xconsult.dk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/fix_ie7-8_error.txt
-madzzoni
I am having the problem with IE 8 and the suckerfish.js but the link you posted for the fix isn’t popping up on my end.
Can anyone help? I’m not very experienced with this and am lost.
Thanks!
Working on the sidebar & popular.php in /includes – Trying to change the sql statement, but nothing seems to work.. The “Feature” tab works fine, but when I change the setting in Thrilling Settings to a different category nothing is displayed.. anyone else ever try to change the popular.php?
Cody:
I forgot to praise you as well for a great theme!! I love it and look forward to learning how to tweak a tad..
thanks..
Awesome theme. I really like it.
Two questions, one more important than the other.
1) At the top of any CATEGORY or TAG page (in other words, a listing of all posts within a particular category or that have been assigned a particular tag), I am getting this strange html string:
logo
which displays the word “logo” at the top of my page and pushes the rest of the page down about 10 pixels. Can’t figure it out.
2) I’d really like to have my top-page menu (for blog PAGES) to offer a drop-down submenu. How can I accomplish that?
Hi Cody just a suggestion for the next release of the theme… it would be really nice to have a full – width template to choose from for page types. It’s not always necessary or even desired to pull the sidebar.
Hi there, am currently trying to install the theme and am having a few errors, this message reads at the top of the live site:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/awfitnes/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1/ThrillingTheme/functions.php on line 82
…also i get a blank page with the following text when i hit save changes in the admin area:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/awfitnes/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1/ThrillingTheme/functions.php on line 82
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home2/awfitnes/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1/ThrillingTheme/functions.php:82) in /home2/awfitnes/public_html/wp-content/themes/ThrillingTheme1/ThrillingTheme/functions.php on line 341
I would love any help here as i love the theme and dont want to have to find another one
Love the theme. I have been have a few problems with it though.
I can’t change the colors of my blog’s title. Yes, I livechatted with Hostagtor and had some rules whitelisted. I would part of blog title one color and part of it another.
I would like to move the Twitter box up on the sidebar or eliminate it completely. Every time I try, the resulting sidebar errors. What is the exact code for the pre-installed Twitter sidebar widget?
You probably have some problems arrising because you’ve got the theme directory within another directory. Try placing the files in just /ThrillingTheme/ rather than /ThrillingTheme1/ThrillingTheme/
I looked in the back-end of my site and everything seems to be in /ThrillingTheme/.
Could anything else be wrong?
Also, the blog title is no longer an issue. I had a logo made for the site but I would like to move the Twitter box like I said in the above comment.
How do I configure which Articles show up on the Home Page and which Categories appear in the Category Bar???
I know this is probably really simple, but I cannot figure it out!
If you are reading and know how to accomplish this, please please please help me!!
Thank you very much!!
For the life of me – I am unable to download the theme the download page (http://www.thrillingheroics.com/download/ThrillingTheme) comes up and there is no link to a zip file anywhere on the page
Any help?
Hey Glen, I started poking around and came across the same problem.
So I uploaded the zip to my server so you can download. You can download it here:
http://www.remarkableinboundmarketing.com/ThrillingTheme.zip
Thanks Mike
I appreciate the toss of the lifesaver. How did you end up getting the file you passed to me? Anyone else with the same problem or idea whatsup?
Apologies guys, not sure what was up with the Download Monitor plugin the last day or two, and it took me some time to fix, but it should be back to normal now.
@Mike, thanks for hosting the file. Hope you don’t mind if I place it as a backup mirror?
Important note: Anyone using ThrillingTheme DO NOT upgrade to WordPress 3.0 beta!
WP3.0 uses some all new core functions and unfortunately breaks the shit out of ThrillingTheme. It will take some time to get them playing nice together—time I’m not sure I have unless any other programmers out there are willing to help with the open-source development of the theme… Let me know.
Hey Cody,
I do not mind you using my hosting as a backup mirror IF you answer this minor question for me:
Please explain how to exclude pages from the category bar. I have a category ID # 39. Please tell me which PHP page to edit and how to exclude #39.
Thanks!
in the header.php file look for line 103 that says this:
< ?php wp_list_categories('title_li=&exclude=1&orderby=count&order=DESC&limit=7') ?>Where it says “&exclude=1″ add your ID #(s) to the comma-separated list like so: “&exclude=1,39,42&orderby…”
Hi,
ThrillingTheme is a wicked wordpress theme, amazing! I only have one problem. I, like many other people can’t get the “featured images” to work. I have no problem to resize the images myself but if I do that, how do I get them to show on the first page over the post? Might be a silly question but I kinda suck at this. Any one knows?
Can someone pls help me? I run a blog and I really need to get the image to work, I don’t need the automatic resize thing to work, I can edit the images in photoshop but I don’t know how to get them over the post.
hey Patrick,
You have to first load the image to your server. Once the image is there, go to your blog post, and near the bottom of the page there is a box for Featured Image URL. Put the complete URL to your image in this box. For example, http://www.yoursite.com/images/image.jpg
Click the Save Draft button at the top of the post and you Featured Image will appear.
I have found that the image size of 540×229 works best. I have problems with all other sizes.
Hope that helps!
Love this theme.. I had an question regarding the sidebar categories..
Working on the sidebar & popular.php in /includes – Trying to change the sql statement, but nothing seems to work.. The “Feature” tab works fine, but when I change the setting in Thrilling Settings to a different category nothing is displayed.. anyone else ever try to change the popular.php?
Just trying to set-up my own tabs.. if that makes sense..
tia..
Hey dude. Awesome theme you’ve got there – i LOVE it!
I’ve got the first issue, and the problem is that it just simply shortens my blog posts – I’ve tried looking through all the files, and my WordPress settings & plugins, but just can’t see where the problem is. Hope you can help me!
Just want to say thank you so much…
The website is really useful, especially for wp newsbie such as me. The customization for the functionality is superb.
Really good job and thanks once again
Anyone knows how to make Thrilling Theme WordPress3 compatible??
NOW WP 3.0 compatible! With Custom Menus & Featured Image functionality through your WP Dashboard & many other bug fixes!
Make sure you grab the latest version of the theme, recently re-released, at http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
Hey guys, loving the theme, but I’m having a problem. At the top of comments on a page, it shows “1 Comment Comments For This Post”. Here is a picture to better explain this: http://imgur.com/rzmqk.jpg
I’ve tried going through the css and various template files, but I’m stumped at this point. Anyone have any ideas what’s causing this?
Photo issue!
So many comments, I could not read them all! but to all of you having issues with the snapshot, I’ve found out that once I uploaded my picture at the root of my domain directory (through my hosting company) and put the URL:address-of-website/name-of-picture-file.jpg in the snapshot window, everything worked!
I think it has to be the hosting service on which your site is installed or your url won’t work.
Cody, Thanks for your generosity! I can’t believe this is free!
Cody,
Nice theme. However, I’ve found it difficult to manipulate mainly because I’ve never used “grids” before.
I’ve been trying to change the font size of the entries, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do it that works. Where on Earth is the font-size attribute that’s controlling this size?
Also, I seem to have messed up the sidebar popular/comments/latest box somehow. What’s going on?
http://www.unfilteredlens.com
Thanks
Have been using this theme since March and loving it. Thanks so much for making it available!
Cody, what a fab theme! And it’s free. Well done!
I am having the same problem as above. Also tried to delete the ‘Here’s Your Chance to Be Heard!’ but the words are still displayed. I amended the legacy.comments.php. Anywhere else I should be looking?
You need to edit the real ‘comment.php’ file. The ‘legacy’ file is for OLDER versions of WP ONLY.
Cody
How close are we to a WordPress 3.0 version of your amazing theme???
Sorry guys, but honestly a new version of the theme is NOT on my top priorities list until I get some other programmers interested to help with the open source development… I’ve got MANY other businesses that require my attention, and with nearly 11,000 downloads, there are too many special requests to keep up with for the Thrilling Theme unfortunately. Would LOVE your donations, seeing as how with over 11k downloads, fewer than 10 people have contributed only a total of maybe $80.
Cool. Thanks.
As I stated above, the legacy.comments.php file is ONLY FOR OLDER VERSIONS OF WORDPRESS. If you want to make changes to your comments section in WP 2.5 and above, you will need to edit “comments.php”
Hi Cody – thanks so much – this theme is great. For the past few days I have noticed that the sidebar widgets have stopped displaying. I have tried upgrading all of my plugins and changing the sidebar widgets around. Nothing seems to bring them back. I have a hunch this has something to do with the Twitter display – but I can’t seem to figure out the issue. Any ideas what the problem might be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I’ve not heard this one from anyone else, so it may just be a compatibility issue or a temporary memory shortage on your server… Looks like you’ve got it fixed now?
I am getting a fatal error on line 586 in functions.php
Line 586 in functions.php $comments_by_type so it has something to do with the comments. Anyone know how to fix this?
Someone posted about this previously and was directed to a problem with the thumb.php, but at least in my case that file is working perfectly.
Love the theme by the way.
Hi Cody,
Your theme is really cool, thank you very much. However, i have a small problem with comments on pages they don’t appear on the pages. what can it come from?
Thanks
That fine. I found the problem!
This is a great theme Cody. Much better than many of the premium themes I’ve seen. Thanks so much for providing it to us. I’m just having one minor problem…
I read that some others were having this problem of the words Comments, Comments showing up at the start of their comment section. As an example, where the comments begin it says: 24 Comments Comments For This Post.
Does anyone know what I need to edit to get rid of the duplicate word Comments. I looked in the comments.php file but I’m not seeing where to make the edit.
Would appreciate any help….thanks.
Sorry Robert, that’s been fixed in the new, updated version of the theme, find it here: http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
I like the look of this theme, but I’m wondering why your using custom fields and not the featured image built into wordpress 3?
I’m not a coder, so I don’t know how difficult it would be to use the featured image.
thank you for hard work.
jb
Make sure you grab the latest version of the theme, recently re-released, at http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
I’m absolutely loving my new theme, but I have one problem I hope someone can help me with.
Under the tabs on the tabbed widget is displays all the posts, comments & themes instead of just displaying each one separately as I click on the tab. Does anyone know how I can change this?
Thanks Much!!
Annette,
I had the same problem and found the cause to be a conflict with one of my plug-ins. Once I deactivated the right plug-in, it took care of the problem. In my case it was the featured content gallery plug-in. Try deactivating your plug-ins one by one until you find the culprit. Hope this helps you.
Thank You, Thank You Robert!
Gallery Widget Pro was the culprit!! As soon as I deactivated, my tabs worked great!!!
Thanks Again.
Hello All,
Does anyone know why when I go to activate the ThrillerTheme in WordPress.org it says under the header “Broken Themes” that the “Stylesheet is missing”?
I’ve been trying to fix this all day and am very frustrated. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Trevor
Hi , I liked your theme very much and I am using it for my website.
I have no problem but I want to know whether a feature theme style be changed?
Currently it is display above the post in main page. My question is can’t it be arranged adjacent (of left) to post on the main page/home page? Like other themes?
And one more question how can I change the color of my hearder from black to white?
Regards
ThrillingTheme IS now 3.0 compatible, with Custom Menus & Featured Image integration through your WP Dashboard and MUCH more. Make sure you grab the latest version of the theme, recently re-released, at http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme
I have the problem which if I provide a new side my layout is destroyed.
However, in page.php I have changed nothing.
What could cause the mistake?
Many greetings
Marcus
What do you mean, provide a new side?
You can go the Stylesheet and find the .box div and add float:left to the img class but you will also have to change the size of the featured image in the index.php file to be more square such as 125×125 or possibly smaller. You might also have to tweak some other code as well accordingly so it looks nice. This is all off the top of my head to show you its possible but you might want to get a WordPress freelancer to do it for you so it comes out all nice a pretty.
Hope that helped just a little, Good luck.
sorry but the reply button didnt seem to work correctly, my post above was meant for Kunal
Hey Cody, I just wanted to say thanks for the awesome theme! I decided to go back to wordpress but was having a tough time finding a theme I liked. Then i found yours and fell in love. I tweaked it a little but not much. Thanks again!
Hi Cody and thanks for making a great theme,
I have the same issue as @Robin where in the Featured, popular, tabs all of the links are displayed one after the other on the same page.
I was also suspecting JQuery, as i run Lightbox 2 and NextGen Smooth plugins which both seem to affect the theme. If any of them is on, these tabs will show incorrectly.
I tried with JQuery-Lightbox plugin, and with that one the theme looks correct, however, the lightbox does not display at all.
I have triple checked the formatting (HTML source), and it is identical in both cases (when it’s working and when it’s not), so i would look for the problem in CSS perhaps, or in idtabs.php. These are just my guesses
I just hope it might shed some light on the issue.
I must say this theme is very good..!!
Hi Cody, and thanks for the great theme! I am working hard to adapt it to my needs but I have a problem and I ran out of possible solutions.
So here it is: I’m trying to add images with attached hyperlinks straight in your php page template, but when I do the picture is displayed with a thin black border all around it.
The weird think is that I don’t have this problem when I put the same code in a page/post. It seems to be linked to the theme itself so would you have any idea of how I can solve this?
Hi Cody,
Thanks a lot for this great theme! After much searching and looking around finally found the right one.
I have one rather simple query, while tweaking the theme I accidentally deleted the code which allows for the inbuilt ‘Bookmark and Share’ icons to be displayed at the bottom of each post. Though I used a plugin in place of that i would like to go back to your original inbuilt icons than use an additional plugin.
I know its my fault that i didn’t save it! But I’m hoping that you or anyone here could help me re-install them back again?
Thanks a ton! Really appreciate it.
Hello!
I have the following problem:
Recently (approx. since the update on WordPress 3.2.1) the URL is attached to my twitter account to the article URL.
Where can the error be there?
Thanks
PS in the comments.php the code
comments_rss_link
must changed to
post_comments_feed_link
otherwise http://article URL/feed leads on a error page
I have a problem about featured image. I use nginx, but I don’t know how to set it up. And when I try to use featured image, it doesn’t work. Always show the “X”. I don’t know what to do…
Alex, I really can’t be responsible for anything having to do with nginex but please visit http://www.thrillingheroics.com/thrillingtheme/ and search down the page for the “Help & Support” section. The theme supports WordPress 3.0+’s standard thumbnail image functionality, but that link will also give you more options.
Love the theme!
I’m having a problem though. Whenever I change things in the Options menu, it’s not showing up on the site.
What am I doing wrong?
@Greg do you have a cacheing plugin like SuperCache or Hyper Cache turned on? Make sure you clear your cache, and also try clearing the browser cache and reloading the page.
Well I actually figured it out.
Now I seem to be having trouble with the “featured image” part. Whenever I upload a file to be the featured image, it just makes it a small thumbnail on the left side instead of the full size.
Any ideas?
Any chance you’ll be updating the theme to include a “Plus One” button?
Im having some trouble lately with the featured image on my page. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Andrew, it’s best in the latest versions of WP to just use the built-in featured thumbnail function.
In first place thanks for this awesome theme! Can you please tell me how to mark a post as featured? I can see field for featured image but how to mark a post as featured?
You just need to create a category called ‘Featured’
Cody,
I really love this theme but I came across a problem in the theme that needs to be addressed. Can you please help me in diagnosis it.. Theme seems to be showing even drafts in recent posts list. This is causing Google to crawl the draft and even show up that in search results. This does cause content duplication issue… Can you tell me files where you have fetched recent post…
Here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/draft-posts-showing-up-in-recent-posts-feed
They have suggestion a fix to this problem..
