I think the top advice is to have others in your field review a resume before you submit it. Also, imagine how you will speak about each point, as you say. This will help to prepare for an interview. When they ask a question you aren't prepared for you can just imagine your resume, and any answer you need is there. If you can't back it up, don't have it on there. This is a good advice.
